County Board sets economic vitality meeting
McLeod County is looking to bring together county, city school and township officials, businesses, as well as “county shareholders” on April 20 to discuss the economic vitality of McLeod County.
The County Board on Tuesday agreed to host an economic summit Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m., to pull all those people into one room — most likely at the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School.
Commissioner Paul Wright said the idea for the economic meeting grew out of a leadership group that he participates in. He and Commissioner Joe Nagel decided to tap into staff from the University of Minnesota to begin work on a possible countywide economic meeting, forming a planning group with representatives from throughout the county.
Brigid Tuck, an analyst from the University of Minnesota’s Center for Community Vitality, said the economic summit will provide an overview of the county’s economy and will address the following topics:
• Why is there a need for a discussion of McLeod County’s economic vitality?
• What is McLeod County’s economy? How has the economy changed with time? What is driving growth?
• In a tight labor market, what are McLeod County’s workforce challenges?
