County Board turns human resources job into assistant administrator

McLeod County will remake its human resources director position into an assistant county administrator, the County Board decided at its Tuesday, May 2 meeting.
The board had discussed, at a workshop session, how to fill its human resources position after director Mary Jo Wieseler resigned in April.
The board considered two possibilities — keeping it as it was, or adding duties and turning it into an assistant administrator position.
According to a proposed assistant administrator job description, the position would still be responsible for human resources issues, such as hiring and firing, administration of benefits, contract negotiations, arranging for training, and other items. Additional responsibilities for the assistant county administrator would be writing grant applications, overseeing projects and goal setting and analysis.
Commissioner Ron Shimanski said he has thought for some time that the administration office could use more help.
