County buys armored vehicle, OKs fiber optic, subcontractors for new government center project

The McLeod County Board of Commissioners gave the OK on the purchase of a tactical armored police vehicle for $244,639 Tuesday morning, Oct. 8.
It will replace what McLeod County Sheriff Scott Rehmann described as an antiquated and unreliable model that can’t be trusted in a crisis situation.
Commissioner Paul Wright spoke to the “unfortunate” situation the county has been put in — that commissioners feel it’s necessary to purchase a nearly quarter-million dollar armored vehicle to keep sheriff’s deputies and city police officers safe.
Commissioner Joe Nagel, chairman of the board and a Hutchinson police officer, said, “Unfortunately, (the armored vehicle has) become a need in our community.”
