County prepares informational material for one-sort recycling
Residents in McLeod County communities will be receiving information this week on the transition to the county’s new single-sort recycling program.
Sarah Young, the county’s solid waste coordinator, updated the Solid Waste Advisory Committee — which now consists of the five commissioners — on educational efforts at a meeting Friday morning.
The information will be dropped off as recycling customers get their new single-sort recycling carts, which will replace the blue bins.
According to Young, the information will include a brochure about using the cart and what items can be placed in it, a cover letter and answers to “frequently asked questions” and a calendar outlining curbside pickup dates for each community.
Young said the calendar is particularly important as the pickup will be every other week, rather than the current weekly schedule.
As far as the old blue bins that were used for the five-sort system, Young said residents can either “re-purpose them for storage or to carry their recycling to the new cart, or put them in their cart to be recycled. But we will not be collecting them.”
