County Road 3 reconstruction planned for 2017-18

The reconstruction of a portion of County Road 3, a major east-west artery in the southern third of McLeod County, is on tap for this year and 2018.
John Brunkhorst, McLeod County highway engineer, reviewed the five-year construction plan with the McLeod County Board Tuesday morning. Brunkhorst cautioned that the plan is “not set in stone” and is contingent on funding opportunities.
But on tap for 2017 is the preparation work for County Road 3 between County Road 1 (Dairy Avenue) and County Road 9, about 21⁄2 miles, and from County Road 9 to the east county line, about 1.6 miles. The total cost for the earthwork for those two segments is $2.1 million. In addition, plans are for a concrete overlay on County Road 3 between County Road 75 (Nature Avenue) and the city of Glencoe, at a cost of $4.2 million.
The project will carry over into 2018, when the segments on the east end of the county will be surfaced.
Brunkhorst said the reconstruction will include the establishment of four-foot shoulders, as opposed to the two-foot shoulder standard.
