Cripps appointed acting Silver Lake police chief

The Silver Lake City Council on Monday night appointed full-time police officer RJ Cripps as acting police chief effective immediately.
The city has been in the process of hiring a new police chief since May, when former Police Chief Forrest Henriksen submitted his resignation with plans to relocate. Henriksen had agreed to stay on until he found other employment or sold his house.
Henriksen notified the city he had found a new job and his last day was Sept. 17.
The city has a candidate for the position with Kenneth Bradford pending criminal and psychological background checks that are being done by the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department. The checks are expected to be completed by the second week in October, with the hope that Bradford will be in place by the Oct. 19 Council meeting.
Cripps will serve as acting chief, at $18.30 per hour, until the new chief is in place.
