Cross-Country runs in Swain Invitational

The Glencoe-Silver Lake cross-country teams made their annual trek to the Great White North last weekend, with the Panther girls taking ninth and the boys 16th in the 68th-annual Swain Invitational at Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth.
GSL recorded 263 points to take ninth in the girls’ race out of 28 competing squads. The boys posted 416 points in taking 16th out of 32 schools in their Class A event.
Maddie Lemke was the top-placing Panther at the extensive meet. The senior paced the GSL girls with a 22nd-place time of 21 minutes, 13.0 seconds.
Kendall Guerrero was 44th in 22:01.0, followed closely by Megan Siewert in 48th at 22:06.7. Abigale Boetel was 79th in 23:01.1, with Malayh Metcalf finishing directly behind with an 80th-place run of 23:02.9 to wrap up the team scoring.
Majkya Metcalf (113th, 24:06.3) and Kendra Klobe (148th, 25:26.8) also ran for the Panthers.
Emily Graupmann was 40th in the girls’ junior varsity race with a time of 26:19.8; Madelynn Brown also ran in the JV race, taking 78th in 28:32.1.
Connor Hallaway led the GSL boys with a 44th-place finish of 18:03.9 in the boys’ race. Joe Knudten took 66th in 18:40.0, followed by Ethan Knudten in 79th at 18:50.0.
Paul Sievert was 88th in 19:06.2 and Isaac Swift rounded out the team scoring with a 164th-place time of 20:55.9. Also running for the Panthers were Tison Werner (193rd, 21:45.60) and Austin Merrill (202nd, 22:22.1).
The Panthers returned to the area for an invitational competition at Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday, Oct. 9, after the Chronicle went to press.
