Cross country second, fourth at Watertown-Mayer Invite

With the close of the regular season at hand, the Glencoe-Silver Lake cross country teams competed in the Watertown-Mayer Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 13. It was the final race of the season before the conference, section and state meets.

The Panther boys finished second in the meet, buoyed by a first-place finish from Michael Schaefer. The senior honed his form before championship meet season with a winning time of 17 minutes, 18.6 seconds – over four seconds better than Zachary Boos of Annandale.

Austin Schroepfer claimed third-place in the individual boys’ standings with a time of 17:35.26, beating out fourth-place Chris Groth of Annandale by six seconds.

Tony Fischer placed 13th in 18:33.59, with Joseph Knudten taking 15th in 18:40.52 and Oscar Pena placing 17th in 18:54.78 to account for GSL’s team score of 49.

Also running for the Panther boys were Tyler Hausladen (25th, 19:34.52) and Jakob Rusten (38th, 20:55.80).
