Cross country squads finish 10th at invite

The Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ and girls’ cross country teams took to the Montgomery National Golf Club for their second meet of the season on Thursday, Sept. 10, running in the Gerry Smith Invitational. The Panther boys took 10th among 25 teams, with the GSL girls also coming in 10th amidst their 22-team race.

Michael Schaefer was the Panthers’ top overall finisher, with an eighth-place time of 17 minutes, 31.2 seconds in the 173-runner boys’ competition. The GSL boys recorded 252 points for their 10th-place finish, one point behind Tri-City United and one better than Waconia. Waseca won the meet with 106 points.

In addition to Schaefer, GSL scoring finishers included: Michael Meyer placed 43rd in 18:43, Tony Fischer came in 52nd in 18:57.3, Joseph Knudten was 70th in 19:15.8 and Austin Schroepfer was 79th in 19:36.1. Also running for the Panthers varsity were Tyler Hausladen (19:51.9) and Oscar Pena (19:52), who placed 95th and 96th, respectively.

Annamaria Falcon led the Panther girls with a 33rd-place time of 21:52.9 among the 147 racers to compete. Also helping account for the GSL team score of 289 were: Megan Siewert in 40th with a 22:07.8, Majkya Metcalf in 67th with a 23:12.8, Gia Venier in 68th at 23:16.2 and Savannah Stradtmann in 81st at 23:57.9. Also running varsity for the Panthers were Kayla Deyonge, who placed 87th in 24:11.7 and Tarin Michaelis, who came in 101st in 24:39.
