Cross-country teams win at Watertown-Mayer

It was a clean sweep for the Glencoe-Silver Lake cross-country teams at the Watertown-Mayer Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 10, as both the girls’ and boys’ squads took first place in their respective races.
Tony Fischer led the GSL boys to a team win with a third-place individual finish in a time of 17:36.62. Jakob Rusten placed sixth in 17:54.17, with Connor Hallaway in 10th at 18:25.45.
AJ Anderson Sanchez and Oscar Pena rounded out the Panther team scoring by taking 11th and 12th, respectively, with times of 18:27.34 and 18:28.41.
Paul Sievert and Ethan Knudten also ran for the varsity. Sievert placed 16th in 18:47.85, while Knudten was 18th in 19:08.59. Adam Garoutte (24th, 19:47.67), Isaac Krueger (27th, 20:10.02) and Zach Herout (32nd, 20:40.15) also ran the varsity race.
With 42 points, the Panther boys took first place by 17 points over the host Royals. Mound-Westonka was third with 77 points.
Megan Siewert paced the GSL girls to their team win with a fourth-place finish of 21:24.86. Maddie Lemke was close behind with a fifth-place run of 21:32.02.
The Panthers had four runners place in the top-10 overall, with Kendall Guerrero taking seventh in 21:38.53 and Ellie Schmidt coming in eighth in 21:57.43. Malayh Metcalf closed out the team scoring with an 11th-place run of 22:16.39.
Also running the varsity race were: Abigale Boetel (18th, 22:59.85), Majkya Metcalf (28th, 24:17.68), Kianna Dolezal (29th, 24:17.85), Brittney Richter (31st, 24:40.15) and Tarin Michaelis (39th, 26:51.01).
With all five scoring runners in the top-11, GSL tallied 35 points. The Panthers eked out a close win, six points ahead of second-place Rockford and 12 ahead of third-place Mound-Westonka.
Both GSL teams ran a Wright County Conference meet at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista on Tuesday, Oct. 17, after the Chronicle went to press.
