Crowd of 2 turns out for Brownton public hearing

Members of the Brownton City Council and its consulting engineer were both surprised and disappointed that only two people turned out for its public hearing on its proposed multi-million dollar improvement project Tuesday night, May 26.
John Rodeberg of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), the city’s engineering firm, said that low turnouts at such hearings are not unusual, but they typically draw more than a couple of people.
The city is proposing nearly $7 million in infrastructure and road improvements in 2016 and 2017, with more work to be done in the future. The scope of the project will impact every sector of the city.
Rodeberg said that assessment hearings will probably draw a far larger crowd, since that is when people find out the financial impact on their property taxes.
Resident Greg Rolander said he had reviewed the city’s proposed plans and thought they were well thought out, but also expressed disappointment that more of the town’s citizens failed to come to the hearing.
Although the city is proposing a large number of improvements, it probably will not do all of them, said Rodeberg.
