CSAH 3 project postponed

The proposed reconstruction of McLeod County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 between County Road 1, northeast of Glencoe, and the Carver County line has been postponed.
At the recommendation of McLeod County Highway Engineer John Brunkhorst, the County Board voted June 20 to reject all bids for the project.
Brunkhorst said the lowest bid received, $4.93 million, was above the engineer’s estimate for the cost of the project. Six other bids also were received, all of them higher.
Brunkhorst said the request for bids on the project went out later than planned.
“Things got pushed back because of condemnation procedures,” said Brunkhorst. The county was seeking right-of-way property for the project.
Brunkhorst noted that CSAH 15 is up for reconstruction in 2018, and suggested that if the two projects were bid at the same time, more favorable bids will be received.
CSAH 15 also is located northeast of Glencoe, and a 6-mile concrete overlay is planned from County Road 3 to County Road 22.
“I think the economy of scale will get us a better bid, and we’ll be able to let out bids earlier as well,” said Brunkhorst.
