Cyril Joseph Popelka, 94, of Glencoe

Cyril Joseph Popelka, 94, of Glencoe, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today (Wednesday, Nov. 23) at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake.
The Rev. Paul Schumacher will be the celebrant at the funeral Mass. The Mass will be interpreted in American Sign Language (ALS).
Casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Peter and Jeff Juul, Michael and Megan Corrigan, and John and Jillian Schuette.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Cyril Joseph Popelka was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Rich Valley Township, Mcleod County, the son of Joseph L. and Josephine (Kotkan) Popelka. He attended the Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault, and later Dunwoody Institute. He also attended Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington, D.C.
On Sept. 6, 1952, he was joined in holy marriage to Evelyn Huncha at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delano. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Mr. Popelka was engaged in dairy farming in Rich Valley Township. He loved his grandchildren, animals, gardening, trains, baking, reading and watching baseball on television.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and also belonged to the Catholic Workman.
He is survived by daughters, Rita (Peter) Juul of Shakopee; Judy (Kevin) Corrigan of Burnsville and Sharon (Merle) Schuette of Glencoe; a son, Michael Popelka of Glencoe; six grandchildren; a step-grandson; a great-grandson; a sister, Martha Urban of Silver Lake; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents; an infant sister, Josephine; brother, Theodore “Ted” Popelka; and two sisters, Mary Popelka and Gladys Ardolf.
