Debra K. (Olson) Schott, 58, of Lester Prairie died tragically Friday morning, June 28, in a helicopter crash in Brainerd.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 (today), at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School, 8700 County Road 6 S.W., in Howard Lake.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service with interment held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Debra “Deb” Kay Schott was born in Litchfield. She was the only daughter to Robert R. Olson and Norma A. Olson (Johnson). She graduated high school at Kerkhoven Murdock Sunburg (KMS) High School. Deb graduated nursing school from Ridgewater College, Willmar. She graduated from Crown College with her bachelor’s degree in science nursing (BSN). Mrs. Schott was currently employed as a registered nurse at the Ridgeview Emergency Department and Flight Nurse for North Air Care. She will miss working with all of her friends and co-workers.
Deb married Gary Schott in 2007 in Maui, HI. She loved to travel, working in the garden, and was an avid photographer. Her favorite subject was scenic photos. Mrs. Schott loved spending her time with her kids and grandkids. She was a prior Winsted Reserve Officer, McLeod County Posse member, Ridgeview Ambulance Service (EMT-I), Winsted American Legion Post No. 407 Ladies Auxiliary member, Lester Prairie Lions member, MSRA and Gasholes Car Club out of Hutchinson. She will miss her red mustang convertible.
Mrs. Schott is survived by her husband, Gary L. Schott; daughter, Kristie (John) Collins of San Antonio, TX; and son, Craig (Heidi) Hatlestad of Winsted; two grandchildren, Hailee Collins and Bryce Hatlestad; mother, Norma Olson; brother, Timothy Olson both of Sunburg; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Phil) Lachermeier and stepson Brent (Becky) Schott all of Winsted; step-grandchildren, Taylor (Zach) Lachermeier of Silver Lake, and Benjamin Lachermeier of Winsted, Chloe and Trevin Schott of Winsted, and Desiree, Brianna, and Preston Collins of Omaha, Neb. and her beloved dog, Meka. Mrs. Schott was preceded in death by her father, Robert Olson and son, Jeffrey Hatlestad.
