Donnay headed to state meet
It’s all come down to one.
Aaron Donnay will be the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team’s lone representative at this week’s state meet in St. Paul after the senior finished second at 138 pounds in the Section 2AA individual championships on Saturday in Mankato.
“It feels pretty good,” Donnay said. “I’m the first in my family to do it, so I’ve got some bragging rights now.”
Donnay went 3-1 in the sectional bracket to improve to 33-5 on the season. He opened with an 11-0 major decision against Reid Ayers of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton before recording a 7-4 decision against Sage Loredo-Hollon of St. Peter in the semifinal.
Donnay lost out on the section championship following an 8-1 loss to Waconia’s Justin Schultz in the final. However, he was able to avoid a wrestleback on the strength of the earlier win over Loredo-Hollon, who emerged as the third-place finisher.
