Douglas Donald Herrmann, 62, of Glencoe, died Friday, July 26, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
A private funeral service was held.
Douglas Donald Herrmann was born Sept. 30, 1953, in Waconia, the son of Donald and Mavis (Oelke) Herrmann. He was baptized as an infant on Oct. 25, 1953, and confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 11, 1967, both by the Rev. H.J. Malotky at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle. He received his education in Arlington and graduated from the Arlington-Green Isle High School with the class of 1971.
He grew up in Green Isle and, after school, moved to Hamburg, where he began work as a mechanic at Thoele Garage in Hamburg and later worked at Car-co Auto Parts in Waconia, and most recently at Fleet Supply in Glencoe. On Dec. 31, 2001, he was united in marriage to Kathy Thoele by the Rev. Sund in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Mr. Herrmann loved to fish and hunt, being a member of the Hamburg Sportsman Club when he was younger. He also enjoyed camping, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and playing darts, being in many leagues through the years. He valued the time spent with family and friends, appreciating the moments spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Herrmann of Glencoe; daughter, Melanie Cargil Herrmann and her fiancé, Scott Peterson, of Welch; grandchildren, Austin Coy and his special friend, Ashley Potter, and Dakota Cargil; great-grandchildren, Landon Petter and Beau Drysen; dad, Ray Heimkes and his wife, Doris, of Arlington; siblings, Scott Herrmann of Litchfield, Dan (Jane) Herrmann of Afton, Jill (Doug) Ernst of Green Isle and Billy Ray (Bonnie) Heimkes of Green Isle; father-in-law, Norman Thoele of Hamburg; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fries of Hamburg; his dear cat, Sam; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mavis Herrmann, son, Phillip Herrmann; mother-in-law, Delores Thoele; and brother-in-law, Jerry Fries.
