Drews honored to lead celebration of their hometown
They recall earlier Glencoe Days celebrations during a time when their children were younger and Mike was actively involved in helping keep things running smoothly.
Now Mike and Mary Ann Drew will take their children and grandchildren to the community festival June 20-23. The couple was recently honored to accept an invitation to serve as grand marshals of the community festival. They’ll ride up front during the Glencoe Days Parade Saturday, June 22, 11 a.m.
The Drews know Glencoe and Glencoe Days very well. They attended the festival as children with their parents. Mike grew up on the farm west of town. Mary Ann grew up in the Plato area. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1969, the last class to graduate from what its now Glencoe City Center. Mary Ann graduated a year later. They were high school sweethearts.
Mike worked for the city for 20 years, serving as its parks superintendent and later as its public works boss before he retired in 2015. Mary Ann worked as the high school secretary.
