Duane A. Pagenkopf, 80, of Stewart

Duane Pagenkopf

Duane Pagenkopf, 80, of Stewart, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart with the Rev. Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Duane Alvin Pagenkopf was born April 2, 1937, in rural Stewart, to Alvin and Selma (Roepke) Pagenkopf. He grew up on the family farm near Stewart and graduated from Stewart High School in 1954. He married Janet Schwarzrock on Dec. 19, 1959, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Penn Township, near Brownton. They made their home in the Stewart area and were blessed with three children.
Mr. Pagenkopf farmed for many years on the farm he has lived on for his entire life. He and his wife also owned and operated D&J Sanitation for 23 years. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, where he sang in the men’s choir in his earlier years, and also helped with the treasurer duties for many years.
He enjoyed traveling, trips to Las Vegas, watching NASCAR on TV, and attending races at the county fair and the state fair. He especially loved living on the farm, being outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing, feeding and watching the birds, and looked forward to family deer hunting outings.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Paula (Dr. Michael) Gutknecht of Naples, Florida, Julie (Curt) Glaeser of Stewart and Corey (Jackie) Pagenkopf of Buffalo Lake; seven grandchildren, Chase Gutknecht, Olivia Gutknecht, Cole Gutknecht, Ashley (Reggie) Vacek, Spencer (Brittany) Glaeser, Tyler Pagenkopf and Austin Pagenkopf; great-grandchildren, Owen and Aubrey Vacek; and brother, Earl (Sharon) Pagenkopf of Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet, in 2013; and sister, Grace.
Arrangements were with the Dirks-Blem Funeral Service in Olivia.
