Eagle Scout candidate helps spiff up BMX park

The Glencoe BMX park on Ninth Street East got a facelift last weekend, thanks to the efforts of Glencoe Boy Scout Michael Dietz.
Dietz, the son of Kevin and Linda Dietz of Glencoe, coordinated a landscaping, flagpole and other improvements project for the park as part of his application to become an Eagle Scout.
Michael Dietz said he and his dad heard about needed improvements at the park while having a conversation with Ryan Voss, manager of the park.
But long before even a shovel of dirt had been turned at the park on Friday afternoon, Dietz was busy getting things organized.
“I probably put in about 10 hours just getting things set up,” said Dietz.
He had to go to a ton of meetings — with the VFW and the park board to get donations for a new flagpole, purchased from Countryside Flag Pole, to meeting with Jayson Neubarth of Neubarth Landscaping, which agreed to donate landscape fabric, retaining block and mulch to bank the starting gate at the park.
