Edward L. Schugg, 71, New Auburn

Edward Lawrence Schugg, 71, of New Auburn, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota. Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m., at Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe with interment following at First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Pastor Peter Adelsen officiated the ceremony.
Dawn Wolter was the organist and Randy Wilson was the soloist singing “the Lord’s Prayer.” “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings” were the congregational hymns.
The New Auburn VFW Post No. 7266, Glencoe VFW Post No. 5102 and Patriot Guard provided military honors.
Donald Slama was an honorary casket-bearer. Godson, Jeremy Schauer; grandsons Tyler Schwarz, Dillyn “DJ” Schwarz, Tanner Schugg, Aaron Grack, and Michael Husemann were casket-bearers.
Edward Lawrence Schugg was born Dec. 8, 1946, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Melvin and Leata (Roen) Schugg. Edward was baptized as an infant Dec. 8, 1946, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 17, 1962, by Rev. R.F. Meissner at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his education in Glencoe, graduating with the Glencoe High School Class of 1964. Edward entered active military service in the United States Navy Feb. 5, 1964, and served his country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Schugg received an honorable discharge Feb. 4, 1966.
On June 30, 2001, Edward was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Grack by Rev. Harvey Kath at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Edward and Cheryl made their home in New Auburn. Their life was blessed with both of their four children, Kelly, Kaylynn, Fred and Barbara. Edward and Cheryl shared over 17 years of marriage.
Edward was a truck driver for over 40 years. He was a member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Edward was also a lifetime member of the Glencoe VFW Post No. 5102 until he transferred to the New Auburn VFW Post No. 7266 and was a member of the Glencoe American Legion Post No. 95.
Edward loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing. He enjoyed visiting the Major Avenue Hunt Club where he grew up as a teenager. Edward also liked to play sheephead, grilling and never turned down a time to go to Breezy Point Resort on family vacations. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends.
Mr. Schugg passed away Friday, Sept. 7, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 30 days. Blessed be his memory.
Edward is survived by his wife, Cheryl Schugg of New Auburn; children, Kaylynn Dalton and her husband, Scott, of Lombard, Ill., Kelly Sehr of Gaylord, Fred Grack of New Auburn, Barbara Anderson of Norwood Young America; grandchildren, Toni Floback, Alexis Floback, Tyler Schwarz, Dillyn Schwarz, Tanner Schugg, Aaron Grack, Amber Husemann and her husband, Michael, Anna Grack, Ashley Grack, Tyler Anderson, Amelia Anderson; special children, Angela Lorenz, Alissa Ramthun; great-grandchildren, Janie Grack, Victoria Husemann, and baby girl Grack to arrive in December; godson, Jeremy Schauer; twin brother, Ted Schugg and his wife, Carol, of Waconia; sister, LynnNaye Schauer and her husband, Virgil, of Glencoe; brothers-in-law, Edward Moldenhauer of Apple Valley, Jerry Bennett of Avon, Fla; sister-in-law, Linda Bargmann of Clear Lake, Minn.; aunt, Bernice Jacobs of Parkers Prairie; nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin “Hap” and Leata “Babe” Schugg; stepmother, Lillian Schugg; grandparents, Edward and Louise Schugg, Theodore and Edna Roen; sister, Sandra Lee Bennett; nephew, Daniel Schauer; brothers-in-law, Robert Moldenhauer, and David Moldenhauer.
