Eleanor Ribar

Eleanor Ribar, 100, of Hutchinson, formerly of Brownton, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Brenda Hornick and David Ribar performed “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “In the Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.” Gale Ribar gave the eulogy.
Honorary casket bearers were Gina Hedin, Mona Dressel, Michelle Bjerkness, Cheyenne Hedy and Rhonda Tronick. Casket bearers were Brian Nonweiler, Kenneth Ribar, Randy Draeger, Joel Ribar, Jeff Ribar and David Ribar. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Brownton.
Eleanor Francis Ribar was born Nov. 20, 1917, in rural Browerville, Todd County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Martinek) Vinar. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth at the Catholic church in Browerville. She received her education through the eighth grade, also in the Browerville area.
On June 1, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Ribar in Browerville. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Gary, Gene, Galen and Gloria. The couple farmed in the Eagle Bend area before moving to Brownton in 1944. They shared 55 years of marriage before Mr. Ribar’s death on March 24, 1993.
Mrs. Ribar was a loving homemaker and performed a home day care for hundreds of children. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, where she also served as a member of the ladies aid.
She enjoyed cooking and baking special birthday cakes for family members. She also enjoyed reading a good book and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
When Mrs. Ribar needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson on April 16, 2011.
She is survived by her children, Gary Ribar of Litchfield, Gloria (Rufus) Draeger of Brownton, Gene (Barb) Ribar of Hutchinson and Galen (Jeannie) Ribar of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Vinar; husband, John Ribar; daughter-in-law, Susan Ribar; granddaughter, Theresa Stand; and siblings Ray Vinar, Elmer Vinar, Leo Vinar, Rex Vinar, Ed Vinar, Joseph Vinar, Mildred Bedner, Erma Myers, Richard Vinar and his wife, Dorothy, and Jim Vinar.
