Eleanora Lamp

Eleanora (Penk) Lamp, 96, of Brownton, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart.
Eleanora (Penk) Lamp was born Oct. 22, 1920, to Ida (Hoeck) and Otto Penk in Stewart
She was united in marriage to Jake Lamp on Oct. 3, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, where she was a lifelong member.
After graduation from Stewart High School, she attended teachers training in Glencoe, graduating in 1939. She taught first through eighth grades in country schools from 1939 through 1942, then on and off until 1950. She was active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Women, and also assisted and took part in many church activities.
She also was employed at 3M for 16 years, retiring in 1982.
She was very active for many years in the senior citizens in Stewart as well as McLeod County Senior Citizens. She raised a garden whenever she could. She especially loved flowers. When she was not able to have a garden, she still managed to plant some vegetable seeds among her potted flower plants.
She loved to crochet, appliqued hundreds of dish towels and did lots of reading. It was not uncommon for her to give her children and grandchildren her handiwork whenever the family gathered, particularly for the holidays.
She also had a passion for playing cards all her life. When she moved to the Shade Tree Retirement Center in October 2015, she played cards at least four days a week, many times twice a day.
She is survived by her three children, Jacob (Sue) Lamp of Albany, Oregon, Karen (Larry Matheny) Kube of Mendota Heights and David (Barb) Lamp of Brownton; five grandchildren, Megan (Jason) Wood, Robin Lamp (Travis) Wilson, Eric (Amy) Kube, Sara Kube, and Joshua (Amber) Lamp; 10 great-grandchildren, Layton and Alexandria Wood, Jake, Lucy, Addison and Megan Kube; and Bryce, Ashlynn, Payton and Avery Lamp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; and three siblings, Lloyd, Willard and Lorene.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. The family is appreciative of those who offered condolences and donations. No formal thank yous will be sent.
