Elvera Clara Brelje, 75, of Glencoe

Elvera Brelje
Elvera Clara (Dahlke) Brelje, 75, of Glencoe, died peacefully with her family present on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at Grand Meadows in Glencoe. 
 
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 30, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township.  The Rev. Dennis Reichow officiated. Christy Ittel was the organist and Rebecca Asche was the violinist. Congregational hymns were “Oh, That the Lord Would Guide My Ways,” “Take My Life and Let It Be” and “My Faith Looks Up to Thee.”
 
Honorary casket bearers were her granddaughters, Laura Tessmer, Danielle Tessmer- Chesla, Renelle Stauffer, Emily Tessmer and Larissa Brelje. Casket bearers were Jason Dahlke, Jon Dahlke, Jon Farber, Michael Dahlke, Eric Tessmer, Joshua Brelje, John Stauffer and Andy Chesla.
 
Interment was in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.
 
Elvera Clara (Dahlke) Brelje was born Sept. 14, 1939, in New Auburn Township, Sibley County, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Albrecht) Dahlke. She was baptized as an infant on Sept. 24, 1939, by the Rev. William Striepe, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 7, 1953, by the Rev. W.F. Mueller, both at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township, rural Arlington. She received her education in Glencoe and as a graduate of the Glencoe High School class of 1957.
 
On Oct. 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to LeRoy “Pepsi” Brelje by the Rev. W.F. Mueller at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. Brelje joined the U.S. Army and served his country for two years before returning to Minnesota. The couple then made their home in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Debra, Barb and Alan. They shared over 52 years of marriage before Mr. Brelje’s death on Feb. 20, 2010.
 
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Brelje worked as a custodian at the Henry Hill School in Glencoe for over 30 years, the city of Glencoe, and Glencoe Regional Health Services. She was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and custodian and groundskeeper for the church. She also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 Auxiliary.
 
Mrs. Brelje was faithful and loved to volunteer. She enjoyed cooking, baking, square dancing, fishing and traveling. She especially cherished spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
 
She is survived by her children, Debra (Rod) Tessmer of Glencoe, Barb (Louie) Tessmer of Glencoe and Alan (Janice) Brelje of Fargo, North Dakota; grandchildren, Laura Tessmer of Waconia, Danielle (Andy) Tessmer-Chesla of St. Paul, Renelle (John) Stauffer of Easton, Pennsylvania, Eric Tessmer and his special friend, Nichole Calkins, of New London, Emily Tessmer and her special friend, Tony Weinard, of Minneapolis, Larissa Brelje of Hendricks and Joshua Brelje of Jamestown, North Dakota; great-grandchild, Isaac Staffer; host family to Brazilian sons Marcos and Rick Costas and families; brothers, Melvin (Lois) Dahlke of Arlington and Ron (Jeanette) Dahlke of Glencoe; sister-in-law, Ruth Brelje of Alexandria; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Clara Dahlke; husband, LeRoy Brelje; and brother-in-law, Herbert Brelje.
