Ervin Carl Damlow, 83, of Hutchinson

Ervin Damlow
Earl Carl Damlow, 83, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at his home.
 
A memorial service was held Friday, May 20, at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jill Warner officiating. Sharon Barton was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles’ Wings.”
 
Military honors were by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.
 
Honorary urn bearers were Marcus Damlow, Dakota Damlow, Arianna Damlow, Rogan Damlow, Wyatt Damlow, Garrett Damlow, Phillip and Allison Carter, Christina Sheets, Trisha Damlow, Tyler Damlow, Trevor Damlow, Ashley Damlow and her fiancé Allen Broll, Caitlyn Wittman, Jessica and Eric Carter, Jennifer and Andrew Risk, Brandon Hewitt, Bailey Damlow and Brady Damlow.
 
Interment was in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
 
Ervin Carl Damlow was born June 12, 1932, in Lynn Township, McLeod County, the son of Carl and Lydia (Schultz) Damlow. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynn Township. He received his education at a country school, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1950.
 
Mr. Damlow entered active military service in the U.S. Army on Jan. 9, 1953, in Minneapolis, and served his country during peace time. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 8, 1955, at Fort Lewis, Washington. He continued serving his country in the Army Reserves.
 
On Aug. 10, 1968, he was united in marriage to Diane (Templin) of Glencoe at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Gary, Alvin, Karen and Brian. The Damlows resided in Lynn Township, where they farmed and shared 47 years of marriage.
 
Mr. Damlow was self-employed as a farmer and raised all different types of animals, including dairy cows, ducks and pigs. He also was self-employed as a milk truck driver and had his own route.
 
He was a member of the Hutchinson American Legion Post 96. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, dancing, fishing and watching his grandkids play baseball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
 
He is survived by his wife, Diane Damlow of Hutchinson; children and their spouses, Gary and Lori Damlow of Hutchinson, Alvin and Sherri Damlow of Green Isle, Karen and David Wittman of Hutchinson and Brian and Sheri Damlow of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Marcus Damlow, Dakota Damlow, Arianna Damlow, Garrett Damlow, Wyatt Damlow, Rogan Damlow, Phillip (Allison) Carter, Christina Sheets, Trisha Damlow, Tyler Damlow, Trevor Damlow, Ashley Damlow (fiancé Allen Broll), Caitlyn Wittman, Jessica (Eric) Carter, Jennifer (Andrew) Risk, Brandon Hewitt, Bailey Damlow and Brady Damlow; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Harriett (Ken) Koelln of Litchfield, Arlene Dubisar of Hutchinson, Loretta Svoboda of Hutchinson, Martina Matthews of Hutchinson, and Willard (Carol) Damlow of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Eldora Damlow of Norwood Young America; many other relatives and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lydia Damlow; brothers, Ray Damlow, Alfred Damlow and Everett Damlow; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ervin Forcier; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Dubisar and Stanley Svoboda.
