Eugenia Lydia (Dettman) Keenan was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Stewart. She was the daughter of William and Lydia (Miller) Dettman. She was baptized as an infant at her parents’ home in Stewart, and confirmed in her faith as a youth by the Rev. Kowalske at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She attended the Stewart Public School until the eighth grade, when she quit school to help her parents and to help raise her siblings during the Depression years.
She grew up in Stewart, and moved with her parents to Glencoe in 1943, where she worked many years at Strutwear.

On April 12, 2010, when her husband became ill, she moved to Grand Meadows to be closer to him. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Terry, Michael and Peggy. They shared over 57 years of marriage before Mr. Keenan’s death on Oct. 19, 2011.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Keenan stayed home to raise her children. She was an active member of Church of Peace in Glencoe. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning. She also loved visiting and telling stories with her family, friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her hard work and dedication on the farm.
