Five teens hurt in 2-vehicle crash

Five area teenagers were injured Saturday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 near Omega Avenue, east of Hutchinson. The accident was reported at 10:41 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by an unidentified 16-year-old male, was eastbound on Highway 7 and a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 17-year-old Hattie Dreier-Schultz of Silver Lake, was eastbound, when the Traverse made an abrupt left turn onto Omega Avenue in front of the Sonata, and was struck at an angled head-on by the Sonata.
The Traverse’s driver, as well as a passenger, 16-year-old Ragan Jean Vilt of Hutchinson, were taken by ambulance to the Hutchinson Health Hospital, as were Dreier-Schultz and passengers in her vehicle, Emily Renee Messner, 15, of Hutchinson, and Cole Delhardt Novack, 18, of Glencoe, all with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the state patrol, the occupants of the Traverse were not wearing seat belts; the occupants of the Sonata were belted. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the state patrol.
Assisting at the accident were the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office, Hutchinson Police Department, Hutchinson Fire Department and Allina Ambulance.
