Footballers fumble one away at Annandale
It just wasn’t the Panthers night.
The Glencoe-Silver Lake football team suffered its second consecutive loss in a 27-20 loss at Annandale on Friday, Sept. 16, falling to the Cardinals for the first time since 2004.
“We made a lot of mental mistakes that are uncharacteristic,” coach Scott Tschimperle said. “We’ve got to be better – mentally tougher.”
The Panthers turned the ball over six times and had one game-altering slip on a shaggy gridiron made slick by a brief bout of rain early in the first quarter. However, Tschimperle was not about to blame Mother Nature for GSL’s woes.
“Weather had nothing to do with (the turnovers),” he said. “We can’t make the weather an excuse.”
The evening actually got off to a good start for the Panthers, who forced an Annandale punt to begin the game before putting the first score on the board on their opening offensive possession.
