Frederick J. Prieve, 86, of Brownton

Frederick J. Prieve, 86, of Brownton, passed way Thursday, Aug. 30, at his home at Lake Marion. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m., at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with interment in the church cemetery. Military honors were by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.
Rev. Paul Wolf officiated the ceremony. Bev Wangerin was the organist and Lucy Newcomb the song leader. Congregational hymns included “Be Thou My Vision,” “Shepherd Me O God,” “Come Thou Fount,” “In Christ Alone,” “Song Of Farewell,” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket-bearers were AJ Remily, Chelle Bailey, Dan Prieve, Tyler Prieve, Nicole Prieve, Janaye Prieve, Teresa Hager, and Diane Oddan.
Frederick “Fred” Julius Prieve was born March 24, 1932, in Hutchinson. He was the son of George and Marie (Keehn) Prieve. Mr. Prieve was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson. He received his education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1950.
Oct. 27, 1953, Mr. Prieve entered active military service in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Prieve was honorably discharged Aug. 28, 1955.
Oct. 8, 1955, Mr. Prieve was united in marriage to Janet Werner at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart. He was employed as a manager at the Stewart Elevator, worked as an ag. loan officer at Citizen’s State Bank in Gibbon, and sold insurance for the Winter Agency in Buffalo Lake before retiring. This marriage was blessed with two children, Lara and Kimberly. Fred and Janet resided in Stewart. They later moved to Lake Marion in 1960 and shared 60 years of marriage before Janet passed away July 11, 2016.
Mr. Prieve was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Mr. Prieve enjoyed planting trees and shrubs, enjoying nature and being outdoors. He enjoyed all the time spent looking for good deals with his brother, George, and his son-in-law, Kevin. Besides his family Mr. Prieve’s greatest pride and joy was his sandbox (farm) and he loved to have people enjoy it with him especially with a cold Sammy. He cherished the time he spent with his family especially his daughters, granddaughters and great grandsons.
Mr. Prieve passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at his home at Lake Marion at the age of 86 years. Blessed be his memory.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Kimberly “Kim” Katzenmeyer and her husband, Kevin of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Rice, Stephanie (Cole) Jensen, Melinda Katzenmeyer, and Whitney Katzenmeyer; great-grandchildren, George Rice and Lewis Rice; brother, George Prieve and his wife, Millicent of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Harold Rippie of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Prieve was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Prieve; wife, Janet Prieve; daughter, Lara Prieve; sisters, Mary Hager, Carol Prieve and Margaret Rippie; brother, Donald Prieve.
