Gale Jasper Roth, 87, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., at First Congregational Church of Christ in Glencoe with the Rev. Michael Fritz officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lon Roach will be the organist for the service. Congregational hymns will be “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers will be Mr. Roth’s grandchildren, Josh Boesche, Tricia Temploneuvo, Mike Boesche, Andy Boesche, Noah Roth and Carly Miller. Military honors will be by the Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Interment will be in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Gale Jasper Roth was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Plato, the son of Harry and Hilda (Klancke) Roth. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Glencoe. He received his education in Glencoe, graduating with the class of 1948 from Stevens Seminary and furthered his education by attending St. Cloud Teachers College. He entered active military service in the U.S. Army on Aug. 31, 1951, and served his country in the Korean Conflict until receiving an honorable discharge on June 2, 1953.
On Feb. 11, 1951, he was united in marriage to DeVelda Sandau by the Rev. Merton McKendry at First Congregational Church of Christ in Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Daniel, Christine and Kathryn. The couple shared 53 years of marriage before Mrs. Roth’s death on Nov. 23, 2004.
Mr. Roth worked for Security State Bank in Glencoe for over 20 years before becoming the business manager for the Glencoe School District. He was a faithful member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glencoe, serving in many ways and also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Mr. Roth gave of his time and talents to numerous organizations throughout the community he loved.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, taking a daily walk, music and playing baseball. He also loved to travel with his wife, which took them to 49 states in the United States. Mr. Roth treasured the time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Dan and Jaci Roth of Mora, Chris and Mark Boesche of Glencoe and Kate Roth and Mark Fischer of Bloomington; grandchildren, Josh (Missy) Boesche, Tricia (Raul) Temploneuvo, Mike Boesche, Andy (Ashley) Boesche, Noah (Jodi) Roth and Carly (Brian) Miller; great-grandchildren, Josslyn, Hudson, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Austin, Mason, Jack, Maddy and Maxx; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne Sandau of Brunswick, Maine, and Carol Sandau of Fridley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hilda Roth; wife, DeVelda Roth; siblings Hazel (and husband Leo) Thomas, Doris (and husband Flint) Litzau, Vivian (and husband Wally) Mielke and Dale Roth; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger Sandau and Sue Sandau.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
