Gary F. VonBerge, 69, of Hutchinson

Gary F. VonBerge, age 69, of Hutchinson, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. Funeral Services were held Monday, July 30, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe.
Reverend Kevin Oster officiated. Shirlee Lanskroener was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “Amazing Grace,” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”
Urn bearer was David VonBerge. Casket bearers were David VonBerge, Eric VonBerge, Warren VonBerge, Ryan Messner, Justin Messner and Jeff Messner. Honary casket bearer was Jesse VonBerge.
Military honors were given by Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad and Silver Lake Legion Honor Guard.
Gary Fredric VonBerge was born on May 29, 1949, in Arlington. He was the son of Ernest and Alice (Werth) VonBerge. Gary was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, Glencoe. He received his education in Glencoe and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School Class of 1967. Gary furthered his education for one year at the Vo-Tech College in Willmar.
Mr. VonBerge entered active military service in the United States Navy on February 26, 1969, in Glencoe and served his country during the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge on May 7, 1970, in Seattle, Washington, and achieved the rank of Yeoman (YN3).
On July 1, 1972, Gary was united in marriage to LouCinda “Cindy” Messner at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, Glencoe. They resided in Glencoe, and later moved to Hutchinson. They shared 46 years of marriage.
Mr. VonBerge was employed in the warehouse at 3M in Hutchinson for over 33 years. He retired in 2007. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in which he volunteered with regularly, the American Legion Post 96 in Hutchinson, and the American Legion Post 141 in Silver Lake.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, LouCinda “Cindy” VonBerge of Hutchinson; brothers, Earl (Dellas) VonBerge Glencoe, Ronald (Jeanie) VonBerge of Brownton, Robert (Dianne) VonBerge of Glencoe; mother-in-law, Bernadine Messner of Brownton; brothers-in-law, Gary (Marilyn) Messner of Hutchinson, Stan (Jeanine) Messner of Hutchinson, Jeff (Debbie) Messner of Brownton; sister-in-law, Jan Messner of Brownton; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Alice VonBerge; two babies in infancy; father-in-law Raymond Messner; and brother-in-law, Steve Messner.
