Gerhardt ‘Bud’ Dahlke, 92, of Glencoe

Gerhardt “Bud” Melvin Dahlke, 92, of Glencoe, formerly of Brownton, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Dawn Wolter was the organist. Soloist Kristen Hansch sang “Be Still, My Soul” and “I Will Rise.” A duet of Kristen Hansch and Bonnie Davis sang “Abide With Me.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Nearer, My God, to Thee” and “Jesus Christ is Risen Today.”
Military honors were by the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 and the Stewart American Legion Post 125.
Pallbearers were Mr. Dahlke’s grandchildren, Amy Lemke, Daniel Ruschmeier, Kristen Hansch, Jeff Wendlandt, Jody Schochenmaier, Matt Ruschmeier, Stacy Richards and Josh Wendlandt. Interment will be at a later date in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Helen Township, Glencoe.
Gerhardt “Bud” Melvin Dahlke was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Stewart, the son of Theodore and Ora (Hagen) Dahlke. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed later as a youth on Nov. 26, 1939. He was educated in Stewart and Dent, Minn., until the eighth grade.
He entered active military duty in the U.S. Army in November 1945, and served his country in the Philippines. he received an honorable discharge in 1947.
On Oct. 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lucille Muchow at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. The couple made their home in the Dent, Brownton and Glencoe areas. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Sandra, Jeanie, Roxanne and Brian. Bud and Lucille Dahlke shared over 67 years of marriage together.
Mr. Dahlke worked as a farmer and as a drainage contractor. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. He also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102, Stewart American Legion Post 125, Brownton Rod and Gun Club and Glencoe Sportsman’s Club.
He enjoyed restoring tractors, bowling, playing horseshoes and sheephead. He also was a wonderful handyman. Mr. Dahlke cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Dahlke of Glencoe; daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Larry Herrmann, Jeanie and Ron VonBerge and Roxanne and David Wendlandt, all of Brownton; grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Lemke, Daniel (Cathy) Ruschmeier, Kristen (Christopher) Hansch, Jody (Ross) Schochenmaier, Matt (Kim) Ruschmeier, Stacy (Jesse) Richards, Jeff Wendlandt and Josh Wendlandt; stepgrandchildren, Cory (Vicki) Herrmann and Kelly (Jamie) Herrmann-Spamer; 24 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Milo Muchow of Gaylord; sister-in-law, Iona Opitz of Glencoe; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Dahlke was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Ora Dahlke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Amanda Muchow; son, Brian “Bud” Dahlke; granddaughter, Lori Ruschmeier; son-in-law, Dale Ruschmeier; brothers and their wives, Lloyd “Jack” and Hazel Dahlke and Lavern and Bonnie Dahlke, and Virgil Dahlke; sister and her husband, Lucille and Alvin Luthens; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willard and Dorothy Muchow, Lorena and Hilbert Schimmelpfinnig, Elsworth Opitz, Loretta Hintz and Carol Muchow.
