Girls’ cagers net No. 3 seed for 2AA tourney
A pair of wins last week vaulted the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team to a 13-11 overall record and also the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Section 2AA North subsectional tournament.
“We definitely needed those wins last week,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “They were important for us to gain some confidence as well as making sure we got that third seed.”
The Panthers topped Mound Westonka 59-45 on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and then rolled up a 68-48 win on Rockford three nights later. The wins clinched season sweeps over both teams.
Guard Maddie Monahan led GSL in scoring in both games, recording 20 points against the White Hawks and 18 against the Rockets. Mac Monahan recorded 12 and 16 points, respectively; fellow guard Miranda Grack also topped double digits in both games, with 15 points against Mound Westonka and 11 versus Rockford. Guard Molli Cacka also recorded 11 points against the Rockets.
