Girls’ hoops wrap up season with banquet
The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team put a final stamp on its 2015-16 campaign on Wednesday, March 30 with its annual awards banquet, held in the GSL High School cafeteria.
Junior guard Maddie Monahan earned Class AA All-State Honorable Mention and Wright County Conference All-Conference honors.
Senior forward Maddy Kalenberg earned All-State academic honors, as well as being named WCC All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Sophomore guard Mac Monahan also earned WCC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Kalenberg, Maddie Monahan, sophomore forward Zoe Christensen, junior guard Rachael Popp and junior guard Miranda Grack earned WCC All-Academic honors.
The Panthers averaged 56.1 points per game (up from 50.8 ppg in 2014-15), while shooting 41 percent from the field. GSL averaged 10.1 steals and 10.6 offensive rebounds per contest (up from 8.3 and 9.1 per game, respectively, last year). The team gave up just 9.7 turnovers per game – down from 14.1 per game last season.
“The biggest thing we were proud of us is getting our turnovers per game down below 10,” coach Zach Otto-Fisher said. “That was huge.”
