Girls' hoops season hits a snag

On the heels of a four game winning streak, the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team lost both of its games last week to drop to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in Wright County Conference West play.
The Panthers opened last week with a 70-63 loss to visiting New London-Spicer on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
GSL led the 2016 state finalists 25-20 at the break after a buzzer-beating three-pointer from guard Miah Monahan.
However, the Wildcats let out a roar of their own in the second half, storming past the hosts with a 20-8 run over a five-minute stretch after the Panthers held their final lead of 37-36 with 13 minutes left in the second half.
Guard Maddie Monahan, who hit the 2,000-point career scoring mark early in the first half, did what she could to keep GSL in the contest by leading the hosts with 23 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
