Girls' hoops sitting atop WCC West

Back-to-back Wright County Conference West wins against Dassel-Cokato and Litchfield last week ran the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team’s victory streak to four games.
The Panthers improved to 9-4 overall with the wins and entered this week tied atop the WCC West with a 3-0 conference mark.
GSL opened last week by storming to a 57-35 road win over the Chargers on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The Panthers led by double digits, 30-20, at the break before cruising to the 22-point triumph.
Guard Miah Monahan shared honors for the game high in scoring with 14 points. Fellow guards Alison Kettner and Mac Monahan recorded 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Returning home three nights later, GSL overwhelmed the Dragons with a 31-7 first half en route to a 47-25 victory. It was the second time in three games that the Panthers allowed an opponent just 25 points.
Seven GSL players found their way onto the scoresheet in the win, led by Mac Monahan at 13 points. Miah Monahan and fellow guard Olivia Lemke both recorded nine points, with forward Mickalyn Frahm posting six points. Kettner and forward Kasidy Cacka chipped in four points apiece, with forward Zoe Christensen accounting for two points.
The Panthers traveled to Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday, after the Chronicle went to press. The WCC West co-leading Cardinals come to Glencoe for a showdown atop the conference standings on Friday, with a critical sectional matchup at Norwood-Young America to follow on Saturday evening.
