Girls' soccer nets second win

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team opened the regular season with a tie and a win.  On Thursday, Oct. 8, after two more ties and nine losses, the Panthers were finally able to celebrate win No. 2.
GSL closed out its regular-season with a 2-0 victory at Jordan. It was the first shutout of the year for the Panthers and the first clean sheet for GSL freshman goalkeeper Destiney Exsted. Scoring statistics were not available.
The win gave the squad a 2-9-3 record as it headed into the Section 2A Tournament.
The Panthers claimed the 11th seed out of 15 teams and played at No. 6 Mankato Loyola Tuesday afternoon after the Chronicle went to press. Loyola finished the regular season with a 7-5-1 record. The Crusaders beat Worthington – a team GSL bested 2-1 – in two meetings this autumn, also splitting its two games against New Ulm; the Panthers fell to the Eagles 5-0 on Oct. 5.
If GSL was able to overcome the Crusaders, a second-round game either at No. 3 Northfield or at home against No. 14 Cannon Falls.
