TRANSLATION: The second Glencoe Community Blood Drive of the year is one week away, next Wednesday July 11, 2018, from 1 – 7pm at the Glencoe City Center — two weeks earlier than usual this year. Are you able to read this valuable notice from the American Red Cross? Probably not. There are some letters missing — the same types of blood needed by the American Red Cross!
Without blood types A, B or O, the American Red Cross can’t save anybody. A, B and O are the main blood groups, and when not enough people donate, supplies may be limited. Blood is a perishable product. Your one donated unit has the potential to help or save up to three patients. When As, Bs and Os go missing from hospital shelves, patient lives are impacted.
Every two seconds, someone in the USA needs blood, and that need is heightened in the summer. But for the past four years, the number of Red Cross donors has declined nationwide by about 80,000 donors each year!
Short answer? You have blood. Patients need blood. Fill the gaps — Donate!
• If you have an appointment, THANK YOU! Please keep it!
•If you want to make an appointment, please call our Scheduling Coordinator Nelda Klaustermeier at 320-864-3475 to fill a gap.
• Save time at the blood drive by using RapidPass to complete online your pre-donation reading and health history.
Log on at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass and follow the directions. This must be done the day of the drive, July 11th! Print or email the PDF to yourself so you can show it when you come to donate. If you don’t do it correctly, you will be asked to complete all the questions again at the drive.
Advice to walk-ins: The Red Cross honors appointments first. If you decide to be a walk-in, we can’t promise that you will be able to donate. Typically, there may be 20-or-more no-shows or deferrals (ineligible to donate at this drive), so walk-ins are needed. We appreciate those who come in on the chance of an opening, but we cannot create space where the schedule is already full. If you decide you want to be a walk-in, be prepared to wait ~ maybe for a long time. Don’t plan to “walk-in” during the first two hours of the drive, as the time slots are filled.
Every unit counts! Thanks for donating!
