Glencoe Light & Power proposes rate changes to begin on April 1

Glencoe Light and Power Commission recently conducted an electric rate study, and Director Dave Meyer presented the results and proposed changes to the Glencoe City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Meyer explained that the commission is proposing a 1 percent power rate decrease in 2017 with no proposed changes in 2018 and 2019. The power cost adjustment will also decrease from $.0344 to $.0094, providing the largest impact on residential billing.
With the decrease, the commission will raise the fixed monthly cost from $9 on a residental bill to $10.60. The average charge for 100 area utilities is $11.20 per month.
With all of the changes, an average residental customer would only see an increase of 2 or 3 cents per month.
Meyer explained that there also will be fixed charge increases for commercial accounts. A small commercial base change will increase from $9.20 to $13.50 in 2017, to $17.50 in 2018 and to $21.50 in 2019.
