Glencoe weighing company’s request for tax abatement – Miller Manufacturing wants help with expansion plans
With an eye toward potentially helping Miller Manufacturing’s plans for expansion, the Glencoe City Council is considering a proposal to help the company with tax abatement.
The council voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing for Oct. 21, 7 p.m., on the company’s request for $250,000 in property taxes over 15 years, whichever comes first. Miller Manufacturing is requesting the abatement to help fund soil corrections and site preparation associated with the construction of a 37,200-square-foot warehouse addition.
The addition is estimated to add $959,800 to the city’s commercial/industrial tax base. Based on the market value for the proposed project, the company will be paying an estimated $12,989 in annual property taxes on the addition. The company is seeking the taxes be reimbursed over 15 years.
The tax abatement proposal was discussed during a closed-door session of the Glencoe Economic Development Authority earlier this month.
The proposal includes no job-creation goals for the business creation subsidy, according to City Administrator Mark Larson.
