Goals hard to come by for girls' soccer team

Goals have been hard to come by for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ soccer team. In five of its last six matches entering this week, the Panthers have found themselves on the unfortunate side of shutouts, with only a 3-3 tie versus Mayer Lutheran on Sept. 14 breaking the string.

“Our defense and midfield were very aggressive and that is something we have been working towards all year so far,” coach Zach-Otto Fisher said. “Now we need to get our strikers to push the ball up more and make plays happen. They need to be thinking that when they get the ball on their foot, it is them and the goalie only. We are losing the ball way to early. We need to be more disciplined up front.”

Last week, GSL suffered defeats of 3-0 to Waconia and 2-0 at Watertown-Mayer, giving the squad more games without a goal (five) than games in which the team scored (four).

Hoping to level that count, the Panthers took on Rockford Area for its Homecoming game on Tuesday, after the Chronicle went to press. The Rockets entered that game at 1-5-1, a mark that was similar to GSL’s 1-4-2 record entering this week.
