Group brainstorms ideas for promoting Glencoe

About 20 people attended a Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee brainstorming meeting at Gert & Erma’s on Dec. 14, with a goal of coming up with the committee’s next project.
Those 20 people represented over 14 businesses, including Ameriprise Financial, Miller Manufacturing, Home Solutions, Fahey Sales, Lighthouse Church, McLeod For Tomorrow, the McLeod County Historical Society, First Minnesota Bank, Glencoe Family Chiropractic, Security Bank & Trust and Twin Cities & Western Railroad, among others.
The meeting began with a short introduction by Deputy City Administrator and tourism committee member Dan Ehrke, who explained the two questions the committee would like the attendees to discuss at their tables: What ideas does anyone have to bring more visitors to Glencoe? And how can we enhance their experience when they do come?
Tourism committee member Sharon Hoese explained that the project must be limited to Glencoe, since the majority of the funding for the tourism committee comes from the lodging tax that is charged in Glencoe.
Attendees were given 20 minutes to discuss ideas for the project at their tables before coming together and sharing as a group. Some tables focused on completely new projects for the tourism committee to tackle, while others chose to focus on how the tourism committee could better market the assets the city already has.
Ideas included everything from providing a package deal with water park and restaurant discounts for campers and visitors staying in hotels to creating a Glencoe destination for “The Biggest … in the World.”
