Gruenhagen hopes to secure funding for city wastewater plant project
State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, is hoping the state Legislature will appropriate more money this session to addressing wastewater treatment needs.
Gruenhagen met with members of the Glencoe City Council and other city officials Friday at noon to discuss potential funding sources for the city’s proposed $21 million in improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.
Gruenhagen has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives to ensure that Glencoe gets a $7 million PSIG (Point Source Implementation Grant) to help cover part of the cost. State Sen. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, has introduced a companion bill in the Senate. Newman was unable to attend Friday’s meeting because of illness.
The PSIG grants are funded through the bonding bill.
The bad news, said Gruenhagen, is that there is about $4 million in requests for bonding. The governor is proposing a $1.5 billion bonding bill, the “Republicans are closer to $1 billion.”
About $167 million of the proposed bonding is designated for wastewater treatment.
