GSL wins regular season finale, claims No. 1 playoff seed
With a 7-1 record and the No. 1 seed in the Section 2AAA Tournament, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team began postseason play this week.
The Panthers clinched the top spot in the sectional bracket by finishing off Litchfield 28-14 in the regular season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 18, on Senior Night at Stevens Seminary Stadium.
GSL never trailed in the contest, taking the lead for good on a pick-six interception by Gabe Roepke early in the first quarter.
The Panthers increased their lead to 14-0 as Carsen Streich ran in the first of his three touchdowns on the night with the first play of the second quarter.
Litchfield replied in kind with a touchdown of its own just over two minutes later, but a 46-yard scoring scamper by Streich reasserted GSL’s two-score edge heading into the half.
