GSL School Board approves staffing changes at regular May 11 meeting

The Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School Board approved several staffing items as part of its consent agenda at its regular meeting Monday, May 11, including:
• Two retirements. Mary Eckhoff, business teacher, is planning to retire at the end of the current school year; as is Joan Cousins, a 28.5 hours-per-week paraprofessional in the Early Childhood Special Education program.
• Five resignations, which include: Rebecca Shogren, ECFE/School Readiness preschool teacher, effective May 29; Carrie Chap, part-time front desk employee at the Panther Field House; Jessica Schmitz, full-time special education teacher at Lakeside Elementary; Jaime Rossmiller, full-time fifth- and sixth-grade band and general music instructor at Lakeside; and Rosa Schiroo, part-time health aide at Helen Baker Elementary.
• Three hirings. Brenda Tschimperle will take Chap’s place at the Field House; Emily Koehler was hired as a full-time science teacher at the high school, replacing Jim Waters, who is retiring; and Krysten Dane as a full-time FACS teacher at the high school, replacing Tamra Smertneck, who resigned.
• A maternity leave request for agriculture teacher and FFA Adviser Rebecca Haddad, from around May 25 through the end of the current school year.
• Several involuntary transfers, including: Sue Maiers, special education teacher at Lakeside, to half-time keyboarding and half-time special education teacher at Lakeside, replacing Stan Hoof, who retired; Amy Klima, kindergarten through sixth-grade case facilitator at Helen Baker and Lakeside to a special education teacher at Helen Baker and Lakeside, replacing Jessica Schmitz, who resigned; Jill Sundblad, special education teacher at Lakeside to replace Klima at Helen Baker and Lakeside; and Kat Quam, special education teacher at Lakeside, to replace Jill Sundblad.
