GSL Veterans Day program set Nov. 10

Glencoe-Silver Lake High School’s annual Veterans Day program will be Friday, Nov. 10, at 10:10 a.m., in the Purple Gymnasium at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School.
The guest speaker will be Matthew Tiernan, 28, who is currently a U.S. Army recruiter in Mankato.
Tiernan, originally from Andover, joined the Army in June 2007 as an infantryman and graduated from basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was first stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, from where he was deployed in 2008 for 10 months in Iraq.
In 2009, he went to Fort Rucker, Alabama, for an aircraft pneudraulics course, become a pneudraulics repairer. Upon completion of the training, Tiernan was sent to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, from where he was deployed two more times — to Pakistan in 2009 for flood relief, and in 2010 to Afghanistan. He also was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, from 2012 to 2016.
He and his wife, Alisha, have two children, Hayden and Giuliana.
