GSL Board hears report on MCA results

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board received a preliminary report on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) test scores at its Monday meeting.
High School Principal Paul Sparby and Elementary Principal Bill Butler talked about the results in their reports to the Board.
At the elementary level, Students in third through sixth grade are tested in math and reading. Students in fifth grade are also tested in science.
Students at Lakeside Elementary performed better than the state average in four of the nine areas tested, but lower than the 2015 GSL results in eight of the nine areas.
Lakeside as a whole performed better than the state average in math, but lower in reading.
In the junior high, math and reading are tested in seventh and eighth grades. Science is only tested for eighth graders.
GSL performed better than last year in four of the five areas, but below the state average in all areas.
Tenth-grade reading, high school science and 11th-grade math are also tested. GSL performed well above the state average and the 2015 scores in reading and science, but very low on the 11th-grade math tests.
