GSL building bond passes

The Glencoe-Silver Lake School District’s $24.19 million building bond issue was approved by district voters on Tuesday, according to unofficial results announced after the polls closed.
The proposal passed with 1,534 yes votes to 908 no votes.
The vote passed in four of the five precincts, with the following unofficial tallies — Brownton: 215 in favor, 84 against; Glencoe: 861 in favor, 361 against; New Auburn: 43 in favor, 97 against; Plato: 165 in favor, 143 against; and Silver Lake: 250 in favor and 223 against.
The vote will not be official until the School Board officially canvasses the results. That canvassing meeting has been set for Monday, May 18, at 7:30 a.m., in the superintendent’s conference room in the Lincoln Junior High School.
The building bond will fund plans to add onto to the high school/junior high school campus to accommodate the district’s kindergarten through second-grade students, who currently attend Helen Baker Elementary School. Helen Baker will then be closed. Plans also call for additional gymnasium and locker room space, as well as a new community meeting room.
As results came in Tuesday night, district administrators expressed their appreciation to the election judges in each of the five precincts for their work in making sure the election ran smoothly.
