GSL girls’ hoopsters enter conference play

The Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team wrapped up its pre-conference schedule with a pair of wins against Section 2AA competitors last week.
The Panthers were able to improve their case for future sectional playoff seeding by downing Jordan 74-60 on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and then defeating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 78-63 two nights later.
Against Jordan, guard McKenna Monahan led a trio of GSL double-digit scorers with 21 points to go with six rebounds, five steals and four assists.  
Guard Maddie Monahan had 14 points with nine rebounds and team highs of eight assists and six steals. Backcourt mate Olivia Lemke had 11 points with three steals, while forward Samantha Voigt posted a team-high 12 rebounds.
The Panthers rallied from a 32-29 halftime deficit in topping GFW with a 49-31 second-half outburst as four players managed double digits in scoring.
