GSL honors employees, community members, retirees at staff breakfast

Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools honored community members and many of its own staff at an awards breakfast Monday morning.
Employee distinguished service awards were given to Carol Silus, an ICU paraprofessional at Lincoln Junior High and the high school, as well as the National Honor Society adviser; Shanda Landes, art teacher and art club adviser; Lisa Petersen, special education case facilitator; and Bill Butler, elementary principal and special education coordinator.
Community service awards went to Bob Kreie, an announcer and bookkeeper at athletic avents; Robbie Navarro, who assists at events; the Panthers Boosters, Inc.; the Crow River Snow Pros, Inc., for their donations to school programs; and the engineering advisory committee, which consists of Mike Maher of Miller Manufacturing, Gary Koch of GK Computer Services, Sheila Murphy of Midwest Industrial Tool Grinding, Inc., Karl Pinske of Plato Woodwork, Jeri Shearer of Shearer Associations, Gary Schreifels with the city of Glencoe, David Swift of AKI, surveyor Derrick Carlson, parent Corinn Carlson, Maria Carlson, an alumni who is a drafting student, and Matt Hathaway of Seneca Foods.
Also honored with school bells were recent retirees, including Mary Ann Drew, high school principal’s secretary, who retired at the end of the 2014-15 school year; Sharon Gutknecht, a paraprofessional in the high school media center; and junior high science teacher Scott Eckhoff. Both Gutknecht and Eckhoff retired at the end of the current school year.
