GSL host end-of-year awards program for staff, community

Glencoe-Silver Lake Schools took time out of a busy “packing day” to host its annual recognition breakfast Wednesday, May 23.
Staff members at Helen Baker Elementary School and Lincoln Junior High were packing up their classrooms in preparation of their move in fall to the new addition at the Lincoln and high school campus.
Because of the packing, Superintendent Chris Sonju issued an official proclamation declaring May 24 Helen Baker Cardboard Box Day.
Four employees were given school bells as they retired at the end of the current school year. They include teacher Patty Fleischacker, first-grade teacher, who served from 1998 to 2017; Sharon Iverson, high school English teacher, who served from 1978 to 2017; Dawn Peterson, administrative assistant to the superintendent, who served from 1994 to 2017; and Duane Stensvad, a retired special education teacher who worked as a special education paraprofessional the past two years, 1990-2017.
